   I recently finished a new Young Adult Fiction book by Melissa Bashardoust called Girl, Serpent, Thorn . It was an amazing fantasy novel with a fairy tale twist. The mail character is a princess or monster depending on who you ask and the story follows her as she tries to break her curse and find her place in her kingdom. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire book and had me staying up way past my bedtime to see what happened next. I love that this book took the traditional female princess role and flipped it with this curse. It covers family secrets, despair, hope, love, heartbreak, and evil all in 322 pages! My next recently read recommendation is by Colleen Venable called Kiss Number 8 . This Young Adult Graphic Novel follows a girl in high school as she discovers who she really is. It takes a few kisses to get to the one that makes her realize where her heart really is and the journey of heartbreak she goes through to get to that discovery. This book took me ri

 2020 got you feeling like you need an escape plan? The best escape plan is in a good book. You can stay in the safety of your home, but be a million miles away in your mind. Last week I finished the book A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It is book 1 in the All Souls Trilogy and although sometimes I find it hard to continue through a series as my attention gets drawn to a different book, this one I am sure I will be finishing.   It is a fantastic story with forbidden love, magic, vampires, other various supernatural beings, secret societies, historical references, discovery, and family dynamics to name a few. It did take me about 200 pages to really get sucked into the story, and I don't normally hang on for that long if a book isn't drawing me in. However, the person who recommended the book to me had so many great things to say, I hung in there.  Have you ever wished someone could tell you what to read based on your interests? We can! The librarians at Bondurant Community Library love to give book recommendations. We spend a lot of time researching and filling out catalog with new books and the best classic's for you to read. We take special care to ensure we are covering subjects that you want to read! From Non-Fiction to Graphic Novels we have something for everyone to enjoy (yes, even you that says reading is boring). We have increased our selection on LGBTQ+ reading options, culture diverse sections, and of course our fantasy fiction options!

  By: Miss Megan I am getting excited for the first official Teen Book Club event, September 29, 2020!  Getting everything together for Kindness month has really opened my eyes to the power kindness has in this world.  Being the very best version of yourself is something that all of us should strive for in life.  Being the best version of yourself requires not only having healthy habits to keep a healthy body, but a healthy mind as well.  You ALL have talents and gifts that you can share with your friends and family. Sometimes all it takes is making another person smile or offering to help, when you see the need.   When someone looks or believes different than you, remember to embrace those differences, not to be scared of them or push them away. Learning about other people's thoughts and beliefs is the best way to open yourself up to things you may have never thought of before. Welcome to the 1st official blog for the Teen Advisory Group @ Bondurant Community Library! This is a space where teens can come read and/or blog about books, music, movies, library activities, etc. I am so excited to be the Youth Services Librarian at Bondurant Community Library! I want to share my love of reading with all of you and hopefully you will continue to utilize the library for life. I want to hear from you. Your opinion's count and make a difference in the programs and activities we offer. Although, we must keep it appropriate, this IS a safe place to freely speak and give feedback!
